Bonsai workshop at Midtown

On Saturday, June 26th, members of the Midtown Garden Club hosted a Bonsai
Workshop at the home of David Kha, MNA Treasurer.  The class was led by Thelma
Buchanan, a Midtown resident and Bonsai teacher of 30 plus years.  Neighbors in
attendance were David Kha, Howard Ward, Agnes Nicke, Diana , Michelle , Dindra .
Each neighbor selected, trimmed, shaped, planted, fertilized and watered their own
Bonsai plant.  Thelma and David provided the plant and potting materials.  For a small
fee to cover those materials, students walked home proudly carrying their creations.

All of the Bonsai were unique and beautiful in their own way: some went for the  windswept  juniper look,
other had double-trunk boxwood trees, and still others, built Bonsai “forests”.  The response from
participants was fantastic, and Thelma received many accolades for making the experience so fun, and
educational.  In addition to having a great time in each others company, neighbors learned that each
plant has a spirit or thing it wants to become, and that through the art of Bonsai they can participate and
    guide the plant into becoming.
                                                             Don’t miss the next workshop!!
