MidTown: The Garden District celebrated the holiday season on December
18 with a party at Wright Middle School which reflected the full diversity of our community.  Samuil Bykov, the talented accordion player who recently moved with his family to Tucson from the Ukraine, opened the event. Go for Baroque, led by Brad Holland (piano and flute) and Devin Kim, (Cello) and Greg Armstrong  (Soprano Sax and Flute) also entertained.
Navajo elder and long-time Tucson resident, Rex Redhouse, gave a ceremonial blessing. Mr. Redhouse sang a traditional song, and blessed the party with celestial smoke that wafted the cares and concerns of all off to the heavens.  Uncle Henry led the pledge of allegiance.

After the pledge and blessing, everyone enjoyed a buffet dinner, including a turkey, cooked by David Kha, and a ham, provided by Carrie Rondeau.  Before singing carols, David presented Carri  with a small gift from the association to thank her for all her work on the newsletter and other efforts that she has made on behalf of the neighborhood.  Mikhail and Zhanna Chernobelskiy and their children, who have helped with preparations for the association’s monthly meetings, were not able to attend, but their participation with the group was also formally acknowledged.  All enjoyed this party which has become an annual Garden District "don't miss" event.
