Proposed Building Time Line

Pima County has made indications of re-starting the building construction process. Obviously, an agreed upon Intergovernmental Agreement will have to be processed prior to a re-start. Pima County will manage the project in its entirety. The Library department will acquire and process the book collection and will acquire and install all the technology components for the Library and Learning Center. Pima County will provide funds to accomplish these two major tasks.

 Time Line:

Were Pima County to authorize a re-start date in January 1, 2002, a building time line would look something like the following:

January to March 2002 – hire a Consultant Architect: this involves Request for Proposals (RFP) from architectural firms, interview panels, interview displays, mock-ups and finally a Contract arrangement to get an Architect on-board.

April to June 2002 – Architect reviews and revises building Program Statement developed by library staff, which are the goals and objectives desired by the owner of the building. Briefly, this involves preliminary development of a site plan, setting up functions and adjacencies of functions that will occur within the building, once occupied.

July to September 2002 – Architect starts on Schematic Design. A conceptual sketching of areas within the building and the building elevations start to take form. The Program Statement drives this phase.

October to December 2002 – Once Schematic design phase is completed, the Architect moves onward to the Design Development phase. This is the last phase of architectural work. All the fine details of the building as a whole are developed.

January to March 2003Construction Documents are developed which are put out for bid and a Contractor is hired to build the facility.

April to September 2003 – the building is under Construction, furnishing and equipment are ordered and the book collection (development started a year ago) is about to be delivered.

October to December 2003  - Move in.
