My name is Charles Beckman and at the present time I am working on the 92nd year of a fairly eventful life. I was born on November 2, 1909 at Bellevue Hospital in New York City to Charles   E. Beckman and Mary Healey.                I attended and graduated from St. Peter and Paul Catholic School and went to Demarest High school for two years. The Family moved to New York City.            I attended Morris High School for a short time but left after a short time to find a jobAnd help support the family.

During 1925-1926, I started as a messenger boy for a Wall St, brokerage firm. My Wall Street career included, working for five firms. I was an employee at Richard Whitney & Co when they failed in 1938. During my stay on Wall St., my advancement was very rapid. Starting as a messenger boy advancing to Assistant Manager Of the P & S Dept., of Richard Whitney & Co. After Whitney & Co failed I went to work at a New York hotel in 1938. My advancement at the hotel was also rapid. I retired from the hotel on April 2, 1971.

As a young man I enjoyed sports. To continue my participation in sports I enlisted in Battery "G" 212th Coast Artillery, New York National Guard on February 1, 1927. The regiment was inducted in the Army of the United States on February 10, 1941. I was released from Active Duty with the U.S. Army and transferred to State Detachment, New York National Guard, to re-establish a new national guard, on January 18, 1946. I was honorably discharged from the New York National Guard on November 9, 1951. I retired from the U.S. Army Reserve on November 2, 1969.

During my Military career, I enlisted in 1927 and was discharged in 1951. I enlisted as a Private in 1927 and retired as a Lieutenant. Colonel in 1969. I was awarded the Bronze Star Medal October 19, 1945 and the New York State Conspicuous Service Cross on September 11, 1946.

I was married to Irene M. Beckman on January 15, 1933. We had a very happy marriage, with the usual problems. Happy to say we outlived them all. We were together for sixty-seven years. We have a son Charles Jr. and a daughter Diane. My Wife passed away on February 26, 2000. In May 2000 I moved in with my daughter Diane at 3949 E. Justin Ln. At the present time I try to do odd jobs around the house and yard as handyman and helper as much as I can.
