BIOGRAPHY OF TOM BURDON
I was born in 1938 in Green Bay Wisconsin. I graduated from College of St. Thomas in St. Paul Minnesota in 1960. I joined the Navy in January 1961. I was too tall to join the Air Force.... I flunked the eye test for the Navy, so I became a navigator and served for four years on submarine hunters over the South China Sea. Interesting Note: we often flew between Hainan Island and North Vietnam.
I was married in 1964 and I have four sons (ages 25 to 35). All are in Tucson. I have one grandchild, Sheldon, and another one on the way.
I moved to Tucson in 1971 and began selling business systems (calculators, adding machines and data processors). Business was slow, so I changed careers to driving heavy equipment for Anamax Mining Company. When I went there, it was called Anaconda, an appropriate term: they would really squeeze the work out of you. The mines closed in 1980, so I became a handyman, then joined the elevator trade. I worked for almost every elevator company in town. In 1991, I retired.
My hobby is metal and woodworking. I build cabinets and do wrought iron work. I just built kitchen cabinets for my son's house. Here is a picture of a machine I built to wind cable for a homegrown business in Mexico.
