                            LEGO City Project
On Saturday, June 15, the Tucson LEGO Club participated in Join Hands Day. Join Hands Day is a national volunteer initiative connecting youth and adults in implementing service projects to improve their own neighborhoods. Sponsored by America’s  Fraternal Benefit Societies, in partnership with the Points of Light Foundation and the Volunteer Center National Network, Join Hands Day encourages people of different generations to volunteer together to build greater mutual understanding, respect and trust. Thanks to a grant from the Volunteer Center of Tucson, The Tucson LEGO Club conducted its  Join Hands Day celebration at TOYS “R” US (5355 E. Broadway, from 10 a.m. to noon) and Tucson-Pima Public Library, Himmel Park Branch (1035 N. Treat Ave., from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m.) where we built a living LEGO city with cars, houses, buildings, trains, and even a soccer field! All visitors (parents and kids) were given kits and assorted bricks to build something for the LEGO City.
About 100 LEGO-lovers participated in the LEGO City project and 39 LEGO creations were submitted.
Among them are: Neighborhood street (by Alyssa & Alex Rodriguez), Aquarium (by Henry & Robert Schwebel), Fun Grandstand with Scoreboard (by Henry & Yontaek Choi), Fire Cruiser and Fire Attack Team (by Jan & Alla Vugmeyster), Soccer Bus (by Nicholas Chu & Sharon Hunt), Stunt Skate park (by Julian & Dahlia Wilcox), Police Station (by Benjamin, Joshua & Richard Skrill), and House of Future (by Moriah & Amanda Belch). Each child then received a LEGO gift from
the Club. The LEGO CITY creations were so wonderful that we decided to show them also June 23 at our monthly meeting at Bookman's. This was a day to make new friends, to break down age barriers, to enhance skills of cooperation, communication, and mutual respect, and to have fun!
