President Brad Holland called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM.  He said thanks for the
great turnout and asked us to applaud ourselves.  He noted that if anyone had specific
concerns or questions to bring up tonight, those issues might not be resolved during
tonight meeting ‘s hour, but we will find resources to hook up with for solving any
problems and, if need be, will put any issue on the agenda of a future meeting.  He
offered all attendees a chance to review the minutes of the last meeting, and said he
would accept a motion approving the minutes for the last meeting. The Minutes of the
May 21, 2002 meeting were unanimously approved on motion by Martha Cooper, second
by David Kha.

Treasurer David Kha presented the monthly treasurer’s report as summarized below:

Cash on hand Deposit  Expenses  Balance
1247.62      1088.00 1272.03  1063.59

This month’s treasurer’s report was approved on motion by Peter Hauschildt, second by
Millard Tucker.

 OLD BUSINESS:

LEGO Club:  David Kha and Brad reported that the club has so many members they’ve
had to find larger meeting rooms.  David said that Misha is really instrumental in running
the club along with his two kids (one with 10 years of LEGO experience and the other
with 5 years) who work alongside other kids during meetings.  David and Misha are writing
a “Back to Basics” grant for $60,000 that hopefully will be approved.  It looks as if the club
will move downtown, maybe to the Children’s Museum and a building on Penninton.  If that
happens, David plans to name the building the MidTown Learning Center Downtown Branch.

Trees for Tucson:  Anna Marie Patti reported that MidTown has put 100 trees in the ground
to date, and that Jo Townsend and Lourdes Frese will manage the program this year.
A sheet was sent around the room to collect names and phone numbers of those who want to
help with the program or to get a tree to plant.  If neighbors will volunteer to coordinate having
at least 13 trees planted on one block, Wastewater Management can come in and dig holes
with their backhoe.  Anna Marie pointed out that our streets would be lovely if they were lined
with trees.  Anna Marie, Jo and Lourdes are planning on a planting date around the end of
October or beginning of November.

Green Retrofit Program:  Suzanne Randall and her team from the University of Arizona are
calling on all the residents who were part of this program to see if it really lowered energy bills.
All information gathered is strictly confidential.

MidTown Library and Learning Center:  Martha Cooper reported that no progress has been
made.  Brad pointed out that the site is an ideal location, but that politics seem to be preventing
construction of our Library and Learning Center.

John B. Wright Elementary:  Principal Lisa Langford thanked the MidTown Association for their
wonderful and successful partnership with the school, and looks forward to another wonderful
year with you helping us help our children.  She also reported that the school has all 25 of the
kindergarten through fifth grade regular classroom teachers—no substitutes for the first time
since she became Principal seven years ago.  Classes started Thursday in a school that is 1,000
times better than last year because of the completed construction.  Parent Night will be
September 10 starting at 6:30 p.m.

Freestanding Building at Wright (Multi-Purpose Room):  Lisa Langford said that the portable
classroom will be moved to the east side of the playground and the Multi-Purpose Room will be
built where the portable unit has been, with only a small part of the Nature Park destroyed for
a sidewalk.

Pima Street Re-Striping:  Anna Marie Patti reported that little progress has been made, although
there was an Arizona Daily Star article on the issue.

Chili Festival:  Anna Marie Patti passed a sign-up sheet around for signatures of all those who will
help this year (and receive free admission to the festival).  It will be held at the Tucson Botanical
Gardens October 26 and 27, 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  We will be selling paletas again.

 NEW BUSINESS:

Rose Society of Tucson:  Terry Swartz spoke about his club that meets the first Tuesday of each
month, except July and August.  They are dedicated to the growing of and appreciation of roses.
Meetings will be held at the Botanical Gardens the next two months, and the club may choose to
continue meeting there.

New Concerns:  Brad Holland asked the audience for any other items anyone wanted to talk about,
and several people spoke of the value of our neighborhood association, including a neighbor to the
Swan/Lee rezoning, but no motions were made.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:05 PM on motion by Millard Tucker and second by David Kha.
Next meeting to be held August 20, 2002, 7 PM.
