MIDTOWN MESSAGE

Life is eternal; and love is immortal; and death is only a horizon; and a horizon is nothing save the limit of our sight.

We will miss you, Charlie Beckman.  Our thoughts are with your family during this sad time.

                    MARCH SUMMARY

We have had some great turnouts at our meetings lately.  It is great to see new faces and people wanting
to take an interest in our neighborhood!  One of our guest speakers this month was Phyllis Cavanaugh.  Phyllis owns a ceramic shop named Made of Mud.  Customers are invited to choose a ceramic piece, decorate it, and then have it fired.   Phyllis wanted to share information about her business because she said it was a good way to raise money.  When a group wants to do fund raising, they decorate items at the shop and sell them.  All proceeds are divided between the group and her business. For more information you can call Phyllis at 320-7928.

Our other guest speaker was Marcus Jones, an engineer from TUSD.  He spoke about a new multipurpose building that will be put in on the school grounds.  He responded to questions and concerns from residents who do not want the new building to obstruct their view of the mountains.  There were also concerns about noise and parking.

              SUBCOMMITTEE UPDATES

BIKE CLUB:  David Kha reported that the Bike Club has had some extra help this past month.  Ken has been working so regularly and diligently that David would recommend hiring him to do odd jobs.  If you have some work that needs to be done, please call David at 323-8278.

COMPUTER CLUB:  David Kha reports that the Neighborhood Website won a Golden Web award!  He thanks Misha Chernobelskiy for all his help with the website. If you would like more information about the computer club, please contact David at 323-8278.

TREE PLANTING: Anna Marie Patti reports that no one has volunteered to help with the tree planting this year.  Consequently, we may have to put it off until fall.  We just need someone to collect applications for trees, order the trees through Trees for Tucson, call for blue staking, and help on the day of planting.  It is a fun way to get cheap trees and to get to meet some new

neighbors.  If you would like to volunteer, please call Anna Marie at 881-0244

LEGO CLUB:  Mikhail Chernobelskiy reported that three presentations last month and an Arizona Daily Star article has generated a lot of interest in the club, which can teach members lots of valuable lessons in addition to construction skills.  The club plans to issue membership cards which will grant discounts to members, such as a 10% discount at TOYS"R"US.

LIBRARY/LEARNING CENTER:  Martha Cooper reports that the committee has started meeting again on the 4th Wednesday of the month.  They plan to help Andy Squire get up to speed and assist him any way they can.

JOHN B. WRIGHT:  Lisa Langford reports kindergarten registration is coming up!  The renovation has mostly been completed, including an air conditioning unit and a new roof.

CHILI FEST:  Anna Marie Patti reports that the we will have the opportunity to participate in the Chili Fest at the Botanical Gardens again this year.  We will be looking for volunteers to help sell Paletas (frozen fruit bars).  This has become an annual fundraiser for our neighborhood.  The Chili Fest will take place in October.  Stay tuned for more information.

                       ANNOUNCEMENTS

JFLOWER ANGEL OF THE MONTH:  This month's Flower Angel is David Kha.   Mikhail Chernobelskiy nominated David because he appreciates all the support David has given to the Lego Club.

BRUSH AND BULKY PICK-UP:  The city will be doing their regular pick-up the week of April 1st.  The neighborhood will be organizing a neighborhood clean up later this Spring.

There is an issue concerning the re-zoning of some property on Swan, just north of Lee.  They would like to put in high density office space.  Drive by and check out the area for yourself.  If you have questions or concerns, please call Brad at 327-2558
