THE VICE PREZ SEZ….

There is no message from the Vice President this month as she is recovering from an illness. We all wish you a speedy recovery, Martha!

MAY SUMMARY

This month's meeting was devoted to creating new committes. A special thanks to Howard Ward for leading us in a brainstorming activity and then helping us to organize our ideas. Neighbors voiced their concerns about safety, neighborhood enhancement, getting our youth involved, providing support to our seniors, and communications. There was also a committee formed of people with expertise in a particular area. We also appointed a contact person for each committee. A list of these committees, a brief description and the contact person is as follows:

Communication: Newsletter, communication with the city and other neighborhood associations, etc. Contact: Larissa Ann Peterson at 481-2261.

Special Expertise: Grant writing, legal matters, etc. Contact: Kathy Arnit at 881-8648.

Neighborhood Enhancement: Graffiti abatement, tree planting, etc. Contact: Deb Black at 325-6558.

Youth and Seniors: Bike Club, Computer Club, Chess Club, youth helping seniors, etc. Contact: David Kha at 323-8278.

Neighborhood Safety: Traffic, crime, etc. Contact: Tommy Regan at 881-8502.

If you have questions or would like to be involved in any of these committees, please contact one of the people listed above. All of these committees rely on the support of volunteers at different times during the year. The more neighbors that get involved, the better our neighborhood will be.

UPDATES

JOHN B. WRIGHT: Lisa Langford reports that summer school classes will be held at Ft. Lowell school this year due to the fact that John B. Wright is getting airconditioning installed, a new roof, four new classrooms, and a gym/PE space. School starts August 20th! Have you seen the new marquee?

LIBRARY/LEARNING CENTER: The committee is continuing to meet on Wednesday nights to continue the planning of the Library/Learning Center.

BIKE CLUB: David Kha reports that the Bike Club is going well. This "no fee" program is for children and adults. It offers hands on training in basic bicycle repair. It also provides bikes for those in need. The club meets on Saturdays from 8:00am to noon. Volunteers are welcome. For more information contact David Kha at 323-8278.

There are two computer labs available: The TIARC center at 4228 E. Grant Road, Suite 4B is open Monday through Saturday from 10:00am to 8:00pm. The Vincent De Paul Center at 829 S. Sixth Avenue is open Monday through Friday from 10:00am to 4:00pm. Visit the new web page for Midtown. The grant will allow us to provide a variety of upgrades to eight homes in our area. You may be eligible for the grant if you are a senior citizen, handicapped and/or meet low income requirements. The grant will allow residents to do significant home improvements. If you would like more information on the qualifications, please contact Anna Marie at 881-0244.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

JFLOWER ANGEL OF THE MONTH: This month's Flower Angel is Candace Salisbury. Connie Tadeo nominated Candace. Connie wanted Candace to receive the flowers this month because she appreciates how Candace has jumped right in with both feet and gotten involved in the Neighborhood Association. She has done a great job assuming the role of Secretary, even when we forget to tell her what it is!

SUMMER VACATION: Due to the remodeling at Wright and the fact that many of us escape the heat of the summer, there will be no meetings for June, July or August. Have a wonderful, safe Summer and we will see you in the Fall!
